Introduction

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive movement disorder of the nervous system, characterized by symptoms like tremors, stiffness and slow movements, caused by the loss of brain cells that produce dopamine.  This course highlights key symptoms, medications and how care staff can effectively support those living with the disease.

Prevalence
Signs and symptoms, including sensory changes, movement and cognition
How Parkinson’s is diagnosed
Falls, freezing and muscle weakness
Reducing the risk of falling and assistance with walking
Medications and their side effects
Parkinson’s linked to dementia
Improving activity levels and enhancing everyday life

Course Outcomes

Successful completion of this training course will result in the award of a CPD accredited certificate covering all aspects of the above course contents.
